Who qualifies?

  • Children under 18, unmarried, and not living independently.
  • Parents must be:
    • Settled in the UK (ILR) or applying for settlement.
    • Have a partner visa.

  2. Parent has/is applying for a partner visa: Child joins parent and can apply for ILR after 5 years.

Requirements:

  • Proof of relationship (birth certificate, photos, etc.).
  • Financial support evidence (sufficient funds for child’s living expenses).
  • Proof of suitable accommodation for the family.
  • English language test (not required for children).
  • [if applicable] – you MUST evidence Sole Parental Responsibility – this is a greater standard that Sole Custody – if this applies you will NEED a Professional Consultation with an Immigration Lawyer.

Step-children: Additional evidence required to show legal responsibility for the child’s care and welfare.

Costs (application fee only):

  • Dependent child (family visa route): £1,048 – £1,538
  • Dependent child (long-term visa holder): £625 – £1,235 (up to 3 years), £719 – £1,423 (more than 3 years)

Processing Times:

  • Family visa route: 8 weeks (in UK), 12 weeks (outside UK)

  • Settled person’s child: 6 weeks

Next Steps:

  • Determine the appropriate visa category based on your circumstances.
