Concise Guide to the UK Skilled Worker Visa
What is it?
The Skilled Worker Visa allows international workers with the necessary skills to work for licensed UK employers. It replaced the Tier 2 visa in 2020.
Who is eligible?
- You have a job offer from a licensed sponsor in the UK.
- Your job is on the list of eligible occupations (minimum RQF Level 3).
- You meet the minimum salary requirement (£38,700 or the “going rate” for your job, whichever is higher).
- You meet the English language requirements.
- You have sufficient funds to support yourself initially (around £1,270).
Benefits:
- Long-term work visa (up to 5 years initially).
- Can be extended if you stay with the same employer.
- Path to permanent residency (ILR) after 5 years.
How to Apply:
- Secure a job offer and Certificate of Sponsorship from a licensed sponsor.
- Gather supporting documents (passport, bank statements, etc.).
- Complete the online application form and pay the fees.
- Attend a biometric appointment (fingerprints and photo).
Changing Employers:
- You need a new visa if you change employers or occupations.
- Apply up to 3 months before your new start date.
Extending your Visa:
- You can extend your visa if you stay with the same employer in the same role.
